Illusion

I could see past miles of tall feathery grass, waving with the flow of the warm summer breeze. The splashes of deep purple and bright yellow, coming from the wildflowers, added to the beauty of the afternoon. I sighed, relaxing and enjoying the undisturbed scenery, when my cell phone began to ring, interrupting the perfect moment. It was my mom, “How are you Madi,” I talked to her for about 10 minutes. She called me nearly every day, since I had gone up to vacation in our family cottage. After I had graduated college (grade 12), I decided to spend a month of summer here. At times I did feel a bit lonely, considering the fact that my next door neighbours’ house was half a mile away. It was mostly fields and farmland in this area, although there was a forest nearby. As the evening drew close, I went inside to make myself a cup of coffee. I stood in the kitchen with my head frequently turning to the TV that was on the news channel. “Two spotted hyenas are known to have escaped earlier today from a zoo,” the news reporter went on, “the animal control team, and zoo officials are still on the search for them. They are predicted to be somewhere in North West England.” I nearly spit my coffee at the sound of her words. “T…Two hyenas on the loose in this area,” I said to myself. My eyes flickered in all directions. I quickly locked the door, and shut the windows. I only hoped my mom wasn’t watching the news; she would have made the situation much worse than it actually was. After eating dinner that night, I went to my room to get ready for bed. I have to admit I was getting quite paranoid. As I brushed through my dark brown hair; I heard several noises. I reassured myself that there was no danger, besides what were the odds of the hyenas coming here.
