A Weird and Unlikely Beginning

Alex came down to the kitchen panting startling the boys who were eating breakfast. “Here.” Rachel handed her a glass of water. She just chugged it down and by that time Rachel had filled up another one for her. When she finished the second one Rachel re-handed her the first one, now full.
“Thanks,” Alex said, finally catching her breath. “So, when are you guys leaving?”
“In a few minutes,” Natasha replied. “I still don’t get why you don’t come with us.”
“Yeah, you do.” Alex countered.
“Sorry to interrupt,” Niall said. “But, why were you so out of breath?”
The girls looked at each other. “Um……” Rachel started.
“She’ll show you later.” Zena covered.
“I will?” Alex asked.
“Yes you will.” Macalla told her.
“Now, excuse us but, we have to get going.” Natasha said pulling Rachel, Macalla and Zena to the front door. “Bye!”
“Have fun!” Alex called after them. “See you guys later.”
“Where’d they go?” Zayn asked.
“Every Saturday they spend a day with the rest of their families.” Alex answered.
“And you don’t?” Liam asked her. She shook her head in response.
“Why not?” Louis asked.
“My dad’s always at work and my brother goes to school abroad.
“And your mum?” Zayn asked.
“I visit her every now and then.” She paused. “I was thinking of going there today, it’s been a while since I’ve talked to her or Ands for that matter.”
“Who’s ‘Ands’?” Harry asked.
“Andy’s an old friend and the first guy I ever fell in love with.” She said with a far off look in her eyes. “Do you guys wanna come with?”
“No,” Liam answered for them. “We couldn’t. We wouldn’t want to intrude.”
“Nonsense,” Alex told them. “I’m sure they’d love to see you. Besides, I wouldn’t want to go alone. It can get rather scary actually, even if it is just a short walk from here.”
The boys looked at each other. “Don’t worry. Even if someone recognized you they wouldn’t care much.”  Zayn looked at her as if she were crazy. “A lot of famous people have come here before.”
They gave in.

After finishing breakfast they got ready to go. Even though Alex had told them that no one would care if they saw them they still wore hoodies. On the way Alex picked a few flowers telling them what each one meant.
As they neared a graveyard Niall started to get a little spooked. “Get why I said it can get a little scary?” She led them into them graveyard.
“Yeah,” Niall said. “Why do we have to go through the graveyard?”
“We’re not going through it,” the boys looked at a little confused as she said this. “We’re going into it.” The boys just followed her, silently. She suddenly stopped and the boys bumped into her. She knelt down to a grave. “Hey, mom.” She whispered. The boys were a little shocked, they hadn’t expected this. “These are Niall, Harry, Louis, Liam and Zayn.” The boys said a little hi. Alex continued to talk to her mom like that for a few minutes, telling her everything of anything. Finally she put down most of the flowers as she got up.
Making her way to yet another grave she sat there for a while. Wiping off some dust on the tombstone she placed a few red and white chrysanthemums and white carnations. “Hey Ands,” as she conversed with Andy the boys wondered what had happened to him. “You’ll never guess what happened. Dylan and I made the finals, isn’t that great?” Her smile saddened a little. “I miss you….” She just sat there for a while as a few tears came down her eyes. She wiped away the tears off her face and got up. “Let’s head back.”
The walk back to the house was quiet. None of the boys wanted to upset Alex by asking her anything.
